Meet Our Dedicated Coaches

Jade McGowan

Jade McGowan

Founder of The Be Brave Project | Teacher | Coach | Mum

Meet Jade McGowan

With nearly a decade of experience as a high school teacher, I’ve dedicated my career to working with young people—particularly those navigating some of the toughest challenges. From rural communities to right here in Moreton Bay, I’ve spent the last six years supporting students through disengagement, social and emotional struggles, bullying, and the complex pressures of growing up in today’s world.

My teaching has always been grounded in relational psychology and trauma-informed practices. I believe every child deserves to feel seen and valued—not just as “another student in a classroom,” but as a whole person with unique strengths and potential. This approach has allowed me to build trust and connection with young people who often feel misunderstood, while also equipping them with the resilience, communication skills, and self-belief they need to thrive.

At Honour Martial Arts, I’ve brought this same philosophy into our kids’ programs—creating a safe, supportive environment where children feel they belong, even when school or social life feels overwhelming. I know firsthand the challenges parents face as their children enter the teenage years. Teens are navigating identity, peer pressure, and the new digital world, while parents are often left wondering how to support them—especially when they never had these tools themselves.

The Be Brave Project was created to bridge that gap. Drawing on my background in education, psychology, and coaching—as well as my lived experience as a parent of two—I help teens build resilience, confidence, emotional capacity, and brave communication skills. At the same time, I support parents in strengthening connection at home, so families grow together instead of apart during this crucial stage of life.

This program is more than skill-building. It’s about shaping brave, connected, and resilient families—equipping young people to face life’s challenges with confidence, while giving parents the understanding and tools to guide them with compassion and strength.

Michael McGowan

Founder & Head Coach of Honour Martial Arts Academy Moreton Bay

Meet Michael McGowan

For nearly two decades, Michael McGowan has been shaping lives through the art of Muay Thai and martial arts. As the founder and owner of Honour Martial Arts Academy in Moreton Bay, which has been a cornerstone of the community for over 16 years, Michael has built more than just a gym—he has created a safe haven for young people, teens, and families.

His journey as a coach has been defined not only by skill and success in the sport, but by his unwavering commitment to mentorship, resilience, and belonging. Michael has worked with countless young people who have faced bullying, hardship, and the challenges of growing up in an increasingly complex world. For many, Honour Academy has become the place where they finally feel seen, supported, and at home.

Michael is an accredited Muay Thai and martial arts instructor, recognised nationally and internationally for his impact on youth development. He has worked alongside multiple world champions and has been awarded Junior Coach of the Year multiple times, a testament to his dedication in guiding young athletes to excellence. Under his leadership, many students have gone on to represent their country and achieve multiple world titles overseas, proudly carrying with them the values of courage, respect, and discipline that Michael instills.

But Michael’s influence extends far beyond competition. He is a strong advocate for creating opportunities for young people—not just as athletes, but as individuals navigating life’s toughest moments. His gym has become a community hub where resilience is built, confidence is restored, and belonging is found. Parents trust him not only as a coach, but as a mentor who deeply understands the struggles young people face today.

Through the Be Brave Project, Michael brings his nearly 20 years of experience to empower teens and their families with the same principles that have guided his coaching career: discipline, self-respect, courage, and connection. Whether in the ring or in life, his mission remains the same—helping young people realise their capacity, stand strong in who they are, and build a future they can be proud of.
